Sensor Calibration
If you are having trouble passing the wizard, noticing drift, or noticing bones moving in the wrong direction. It could be time to calibrate your sensors. We will cover the different types of calibration as well as when and how to use them.
Before calibrating:
- Give the sensors at least 5 minutes to cool down after a full charge
- Make sure the sensors are all in the charging dock
- Place the charging dock in the performance space. Set it on a surface free of magnetic interference. We recommend using the case the comes with your PN3
- Turn all the sensors on
Steady Calibration
The Steady Calibration calibrates the gyroscope. This ensures that all the sensors are facing the same direction. It is very important that the sensors do not move during this process. Run this calibration if you notice bones moving in the wrong direction.
To perform a Steady Calibration:
- Go to Main Menu --> Steady Calibration
- Click Connect
- Make sure all the sensors appear on the Sensor Map
- Click Start
Magnetic Calibration
The Magnetic Calibration calibrates the magnetometer. This ensures that all the sensors know which way is north. Run this calibration if you notice drift or if the Sensor Map/Device Details panel indicate that the sensors are magnetized.
Simplified Magnetic Calibration
If your sensors are already adapted to the environment, the Simplified Magnetic Calibration is a quick way to recalibrate them. It is very important that the sensors do not move during this process.
To perform a Simplified Magnetic Calibration:
- Go to Main Menu --> Magnetic Calibration --> Simplified
- Click Connect
- Make sure all the sensors appear on the Sensor Map
- Click Start
Standard Magnetic Calibration
If your sensors are highly magnetized or you are in a new environment, you should run a Standard Magnetic Calibration. We recommend having one person operate the computer, and one person hold the sensors for best results.
To perform a Standard Magnetic Calibration:
- Make sure the sensors are in their dock and rest it on the palm of your hand.
- Go to Main Menu --> Magnetic Calibration --> Standard
- Click Connect
- Make sure all the sensors appear on the Sensor Map
- Click Start
- Place you other hand on top of the sensors and rotate the dock in a figure 8 motion 4-5 times. Flip the dock upside down and then rotate it in a figure 8 another 4-5 times. Repeat this process until the calibration is complete. If the sensors are highly magnetized, you may need to repeat this process a few times.
