3. Hardware Preparation
Equipment List
Review the contents of your kit. Use the following list to confirm content.
- (17) Perception Neuron 3 Body Sensors
- (17) Perception Neuron 3 sensor socket attachments
- (1) Perception Neuron 3 Spare Sensor
- (1) USB-C Transceiver
- (1) USB-C to USB A adapter
- (3) USB-C charging cables
- (3) Modular Charging Dock
- (1) Set of Full Body Straps
- (1) Mesh Bag for straps
- (1) EVA Carry Case
- (1) Axis Studio Software dongle
- (1) Base Glove Size (M)
Charging Sensors
Insert the PN3 sensor into the charging dock to charge them.
- Solid Red light indicates charging
- No LED light indicates fully charged
- Flashing Red light indicates possible battery error
Notice: For long period of storage, make sure your sensors are charged often to avoid deeply discharge batteries. Deeply discharged batteries can diminish the lire of the batteries.
Configure Transceiver
After the software dongle is activated, run Axis Studio. You may now connect your transceiver to your computer. If this is the first time connecting the transceiver to Axis Studio, your dongle may not have an IP address assigned, the following dialogue will show up. Click Yes to allow our application to assign and IP.
3. Sensor Placement
Attach Straps
Place the straps on the actor according to the diagram below:
It is important that the sensors do not move during capture, so make sure they are secure on the actor and are not placed on top of loose clothing.
Note: if you have the glove sensor kit. It is recommended to insert the sensors on the gloves before wearing.
Turn Sensors on
Turn sensors on before placing them onto the straps
- Method 1: Unplugging the charging cable from the charging dock will turn on all the sensors.
- Method 2: Press the button on top of the sensor for about 2s to turn on the sensor. Press the button for about 5s to turn off the sensor.
Sensor installation
Insert the sensors into the basemount.
4. Getting Started with Axis Studio
Create Project
Use projects to manage all the files associated with motion capture sessions
- Open Axis Studio
- Click New Project
- Enter the project name and choose the location of the project
Check the Transceiver connection status
If the transceiver is connecting to the PC right away, the status of the transceiver will be shown in the suits panel.
Connect Sensors
Turn on sensors, make sure the color of the sensors light is the same as the transceiver light, click the connect button, then check the sensor panel for the status. In the avatar diagram, green/yellow/ red color means the sensors are connected already.
If sensors are not showing on your sensor map, review the color LED lights on the body sensors and transceiver. Both body and transceiver must be on the same color LED channel.
Double-click on the red button on the transceiver or body sensor to change the color.
5. Calibrate Sensors
Leave the body sensors in the charging dock, while on, connect them to Axis Studio with Sensor Connect. Run the sensor calibration to help them adapt to the environment. The sensors calibration process contains the two following steps:
Magnetic Calibration
1. Go to Main Menu --> Magnetic Calibration.
2. Connect sensors and proceed through the steps. You'll be required to rotate the calibration box continuously until the apps tells you to stop.
3. If the sensors do not pass, run the magnetic calibration again. If the sensors continue to fail, try running an individual magnetic calibration on the sensors: Did you know? | Individual Magnetic Calibration - YouTube
Steady Calibration
1. Leave sensors in the calibration box, On.
2. Go to Main Menu --> Steady Calibration
3. Proceed through the process, Axis Studio will calibrate the sensors in the box itself. No movement required.
6. Posture Calibration
Click on the Posture Calibration button and follow the pop-up instructions to begin the posture calibration process.
A POSE Stand straight, arms facing down with palms facing your body. Position feet distance approximately the same distance of your hip width and maintain feet parallel to each other |
|
S POSE Crouch down with feet flat on the ground while maintain feet and legs parallel to each other. Extend arms forward with palms facing down. |
|
T POSE Stand straight spread-out arms perpendicular to your body's upward position, with palms facing down. If you are using gloves, extend fingers and position thumb in a resting posture. |
|
B POSE Put your hands together and place them on your chest. Palms attach to each other, and the palm surface is perpendicular to the ground. Thumbs are about 45-degree angle. |
|
P POSE Thumb and index finger pinch to each other, no requirement for the posture of the other three fingers. |
|
W POSE Start in an A pose. Walk 6 steps forward in a straight line. |
6. Sensor Light Instruction
Following information details the LED light indicator status.
